UPDATES:

8/31/2021 update:

Our county case number for the week of 8/8/2021 - 8/14/2021 went up to 20.9 after having been 10.9, 2, 1 and 1 the prior three weeks per the Minnesota Department of Health.  We are excited for all our students to be back in the school buildings on September 7, 2021 (HS and MS first day of school; PV and RV will be September 9, 2021 as they have back to school conferences the 7th and 8th).  While we do not require masks in the buildings, we do highly recommend and encourage wearing masks.  Federal mandate requires passengers to wear a mask on all transportation, which includes school buses and vans.  If anything changes, we will notify you.  This is a community effort to keep our students and staff safe and in school. We are looking forward to a good year.  Once we are back in school, we will again be updating our case dashboard.

Indoor guidelines will remain the same at this time. Masks are required.

JCC is still required to follow the safe school learning plan which requires masks inside. Our indoor events (like graduation) have the same guidelines as currently set. It appears after Memorial Day there will be less restrictions but we will be out of school at that point.

Data used for decision for schools

3/27/2021:

Dear Jackson County Central Families:

Due to circumstances outside of our control, there will not be bus transportation for students this week.  We will be asking parents to transport their students to and from school on Monday, March 29.  On Monday, teachers will send home technology devices and work/packets with students. Technology will also be available for pick up at each school’s main office until 6:00 p.m. Teachers will be handing out or emailing class schedules. There will be distance learning on Tuesday (3/30) and Wednesday (3/31). Please note that Thursday (4/1), Friday (4/2) and Monday (4/5) are days off from school already for Spring break.  We plan to resume normal in person school on Tuesday, April 6.

At this time, spring sports will still start on Monday but there will not be shuttle buses.  Student athletes will need their own transportation to and from practices.  The band and choir concert will still be held the evening of Monday, March 29.  Juniors will report to school on Tuesday at 8:00 am for the ACT.  They will return home for distance learning after they complete their ACT test.  They will provide their own transportation.  If they have any issues with transportation, they can contact the high school at 507 847 5310.

On March 25 and March 26, there was an identified case of COVID-19 on the following bus routes:

Big bus routes 4 and 5

Van route 34 and Van 34 to ALC in Windom

HS shuttle bus from Lakefield

Preschool and kindergarten from Lakefield to RVS

We have worked with MDH to identify those who were in close contact with the person who tested positive for COVID-19, and have told them directly to stay home for 14 days, even if they have a negative COVID-19 test during that time. This is how long it can take to show signs of the disease. If you have not been contacted, your child is not considered a close contact, and there is nothing special you need to do.

Please contact your school office if you have any concerns. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

If you are a HS FULL TIME DISTANCE LEARNER, March 19th is the date to let us know if you are coming back to in person learning.

If you do not let us know you want to come back in person, you will need to stay full distance for the remainder of the school year.

2/15/2021 update:

Reminder to screen your child before they come to school. Staying home when your children are sick is the best way to prevent the spread of illness to other children. We do follow guidelines from MDH and CDC on when to keep children home to keep our school safe and Healthy!  MDH decision tree

These are all reasons we ask your child to stay home for until they are feeling better for a full 24 hours:

Does your child have a fever greater than 100.4?

They must be fever free for 24 hours without any fever reducing medications before returning.

    Difficulty breathing?

New cough or cough that gets worse?

    Sore throat?

    Nausea or Vomiting?

If your child has been diagnosed by a healthcare provider with a different illness, such as strep, follow their instructions for keeping your child home and let the school know.

Thank you for keeping JCC Safe and Healthy!

2/11/2021 update:

Our county case number went down this week to 25.88 (cases per 10,000 people) per the Data for K-12 schools, 14 day COVID case rate.  PreK - 12th grade will remain in person.  Reminder: School is dismissed at 1 pm today, Thursday, February 11, no School Friday, February 12, and no school Monday, February 15 (Presidents' Day).

2/4/2021 update:

Our county case number went down this week to 35.83 (cases per 10,000 people) per the Data for K-12 schools, 14 day COVID case rate.  PreK - 12th grade will remain in person.  Reminder: School is dismissed at 1 pm Thursday, February 11, no School Friday, February 12, and no school Monday, February 15 (Presidents' Day).

1/15/2021 update:

Our county case number went down this week to 45.78 (cases per 10,000 people) per the Data for K-12 schools, 14 day COVID case rate.  Reminder:  PreK - 12th grade will return to in person school on Tuesday, January 19.  (Monday, January 18 is a staff development day)

As we transition into the in-person learning model on Tuesday, January 19th, here are some  guidelines that need to be followed:

EXPECTATIONS:

  • MASKS MUST BE ON AT ALL TIMES WHILE ON THE BUS AND IN SCHOOL, IN ORDER TO BE IN THE IN-PERSON LEARNING MODEL:

  • STUDENTS NEED TO WEAR THEIR OWN MASK TO SCHOOL AND DURING SCHOOL.  CONSIDER SENDING AN EXTRA MASK TO SCHOOL FOR THEM TO LEAVE IT AT SCHOOL IF NEEDED.

If these expectations/ guidelines are not followed this could cause us to quarantine more students or move to a more restricted learning model. These expectations were stressed by the Minnesota Department of Health Southwest Region in order for us to go to the in-person learning model.

All grades Pre K-12 will attend school Monday through Friday. Wednesday being an early release at 12 noon (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday will be a regular dismissal time).

Reminder: We have staff development on Monday, January 18th so there is no school for students.

ABSENCES:

  • Students who are feeling ill and staying home, have a scheduled appointment, or missed the bus will not be able to log in from home for the day to do distance learning. Parents/guardians should contact the school to approve the absence.  Grades 7-12 students can go to Schoology to get their assignments to keep up with their work.

    • It is very difficult for staff to manage students during distance learning for different reasons. This is the same as we have done pre-covid.

  • Students who are absent due to being quarantined or who have tested positive for COVID will be able to log on.

  • You have the option to make your student full distance learning or in-person learning, no other learning models are available unless your child has an IEP.  If you are changing your student’s current learning model, please contact your school.

It is important to contact the school nurse with any illnesses or questions.

1/7/2021 update:

Starting January 11, 2021 –

Preschool through 6th grade remains all in-person learning

7th grade Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday (Wednesday distance learning)

8th grade

A group Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday in-person school (Thursday, Friday distance learning)

B group Wednesday, Thursday, Friday in-person school (Monday, Tuesday distance learning)

9-12th grades will have no change the week of January 11th.  Students will remain in the A and B group schedule due to MDH guidance and the semester change.

Wednesday noon dismissal remains.

January 18, 2021 there will be no school for a teacher in service.

Starting January 19, 2021 -

The plan is to have all students Preschool through 12th grade in-person learning five days per week!  School will still dismiss at noon on Wednesdays.

This is subject to change if our covid-19 numbers increase the week of January 11.  Your diligence to safety is very important for us to be able to operate in a full in-person learning model.  Wear a mask, wash your hands and respect the social distance guidelines, MDH requirements and school district expectations for students and staff.  What you do in, and out, of school is very important to being able to operate in the in-person learning model.

When we return to a full in-person learning model, our social distancing requirement can be reduced to three feet.  Staff and students will now be three to six feet apart.  Because of the decrease in distance, the quarantine level may increase because it will include more students.  Students may have more exposure so more students may have to quarantine.  We are partnering with the bus service to ensure proper ventilation with students transported on buses.

To full time distance learners, please contact the administrator in your building if you want to return to in-person school.  If you remain a full time distance learner, the next time to switch will be at the end of the quarter.

Regarding games and spectators: the district is limited to guidance and limits from the state and conference. More information will be provided to participants from their coaches.

Middle School games: home spectators only (2 spectators per player).  There will be no visiting spectators at games here or away.  This means JCC parents can go to home games only.

High School/Varsity games: players will be allowed two spectators at games (home and away).

12/9/2020

Dear JCC Families,

Nearly two weeks ago, the JCC School District announced that it would be moving to a full distance learning model for all PK-12th grade students due to the number of staff who had tested positive or were quarantined for COVID.  Now that the majority of those staff were able to safely return to work, we have decided to return to the following learning models at each building starting on December 14:

  • Riverside and Pleasantview (Green Level)

(PK-5th grade):  All students will return to full in person learning with social distancing.  Wednesday dismissal will be at noon instead of 2pm.

  • JCC MS : (Orange Level)

(6th grade) Will return to full in person learning with social distancing Monday-Friday. (7th and 8th grades):  All 7th and 8th grade students will return to the beginning of the year hybrid learning model.  A day students will be in on Monday and Tuesday (B day students will be online).  Wednesday will be full distance learning for all students with a noon dismissal.  B day students will be in on Thursday and Friday (A day students will be online).  Students will be in the beginning of the year classroom pods. For the week of December 21, A day will go on Monday, December 21, and B day will be on Tuesday, December 22.

  • JCC HS (Orange Level)

(grades 9-12):  All students will return to the beginning of the year hybrid model. A day students will be in on Monday and Tuesday (B day students will be online).  Wednesday will be full distance learning for all students with a noon dismissal.  B day students will be in on Thursday and Friday.  9th and 12th grade students will not be in four days a week to start.  For the week of December 21, A day will go on Monday, December 21, and B day will be on Tuesday, December 22.

With implementing these models, we are assuring we are returning in a safe way with social distancing guidelines, wearing masks, and using small cohort groups. Please continue to communicate with the health office about any illness for your student, COVID testing, or if your family or student is in quarantine. Please review with your student the importance of following all these guidelines to assure a safe school environment. Contact  alyssa.anderson@jccschools.net, or call 507-847-6658. We will monitor daily for staff and student illnesses and absences to assure we are providing a safe learning environment.

We hope to continue this model on January 4th, but will reevaluate during the Christmas break. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact your school administrator.

Sincerely,

Superintendent Barry Schmidt

12/04/2020 update:

Our county case number went up this week to 148.3 (cases per 10,000 people) per the Data for K-12 schools, 14 day COVID case rate.  Reminder:  we will be on full distance learning for all grades PreK-12 until December 11.  We are reevaluating all variables for a possible return on December 14th.  Aside from people staying in good health, our biggest concern is having enough staff healthy to operate.  We will make our decision and announce the learning model on the afternoon of Wednesday, December 9.  Please continue to make safe decisions to help us make an in person learning model possible.

11/28/2020 update:

Our county case number went up this week to 110.48 (cases per 10,000 people) per the Data for K-12 schools, 14 day COVID case rate.  Our numbers within our school also went up (see dashboard above).  Reminder:  we will be on full distance learning for all grades PreK-12 starting November 30 and until December 11.

11/19/2020 update:

Our county case number went up this week to 81.62 (cases per 10,000 people) per the Data for K-12 schools, 14 day COVID case rate.  Our numbers within our school also went up slightly.  Last week, between staff and students, we had two positive cases and 68 on quarantine.  This week, JCC only has 1 positive case but we have over 114 on quarantine (staff and students).  Because of this and after consulting with our nurse and public health and upon recommendations from MDE and MDH, JCC will move to full distance learning for all grades PreK-12 starting November 30, 2020 and until December 11, 2020

Tomorrow, Friday (11/20), will be our last day of in person school.  Do not attend if you are sick, on quarantine or have been directly exposed.  If you are on quarantine, ill or have been directly exposed, please call the school to arrange a pick up time for any materials.

If any A day students need to come in to bring home materials, they can come in on Monday, (11/23) between 8am to 3pm.  If you have a problem getting your material, please contact the school.

HS School retake day has been postponed to January 20 and 21.

Students will have NO SCHOOL NEXT WEEK 11/23-11/27.  Full time distance learning will begin Monday, 11/30, and continue until Friday, 12/11.  JCC will reevaluate numbers and update if we can return to school or if we need to extend this.

If you need daycare for your school aged children, please contact Darci.Thurmer@jccschools.net at Kids Club to see if you qualify.

The Riverside cheesecake fundraiser will still take place.  Information will be sent to parents about order and pick ups.

FFA fruit pickup will continue to take place.  Those involved have been given the info.

HS School retake day has been postponed to January 20 and 21.

Information about food service and meal pick up will be coming.  Pick-up will be Tuesday and Fridays from 11:30am-12:30pm at the High School Door 7 and Pleasantview north parking lot.  There will not be pickup Friday, 11/27.  Please fill out the survey:

https://forms.gle/Vyz55mxnR1i2R2KK9

Please wear your mask and avoid social gatherings and encourage others to do the same.

11/12/2020 update:

Our county case number this week went up slightly to 46.78 (cases per 10,000 people) per the Data for K-12 schools, 14 day COVID case rate.  If you have any COVID updates or concerns (test results, family testing, quarantine protocols, isolation protocols), please communicate with our school nurse Alyssa.anderson@jccschools.net or  507 847 6658 (leave a message), even on any day off of school and over the weekends.  With our community numbers this high, it is important to continue to follow protocol within our schools to keep our school numbers low.  Thank you for your diligence with this so that we can remain in school.

FRESHMAN will come back in person Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Wednesday will still be a distant learning day. All A and B freshman will have in person learning every day (except Wednesday) starting Monday, November 16, 2020.  Any freshman currently doing full distance learning that would like to switch to the in person model must contact the school before Monday (507 847 5310) or we will assume that you will remain in the full distance model.  Again, all A and B freshman students will attend in person on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

We will continue to monitor the numbers and if we have to switch to a different, more restricted learning model, in a sudden fashion, parents will be alerted by instant message.

11/05/2020 update:

This week our number of county cases went up to 42.8 (cases per 10,000 people) per the Data for K-12 schools, 14 day COVID case rate.  If the numbers go higher, along with the numbers on our dashboard above (regarding how these numbers are directly affecting our schools), it could have an effect on our operational models.  Any change in learning plans will be announced on this website, instant alert and social media.

10/29/2020 update:

This week our number of county cases went up to 38.82 (cases per 10,000 people) per the Data for K-12 schools, 14 day COVID case rate.  This rate is published every Thursday and the school evaluates this together with recommendations from MDH, MDE and local public health.  Although our number is higher than last week, our numbers within the school (students and staff) remains LOW.  We will continue our current model of learning.  There are no changes at this time.

10/22/2020 update:

Weekly, we evaluate current COVID positive cases, cases in the school, the look back period number (this week is 22.89) and areas (regions) of the infections in the county along with MDH and MDE guidelines. Due to the recent decreased numbers of positive COVID cases in our county, and the number of those cases within the school realms remaining low, we are bringing more students back into our buildings next week. We will still follow the protocols of masks and social (6’) distancing. We feel we can still assure the safety of students and staff with these additional students in the buildings.

SENIORS will come back in person Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Wednesday will still be a distant learning day. All A and B seniors will have in person learning every day (except Wednesday) starting Monday, October 26, 2020.

In addition to their current schedule, the middle school will be bringing the entire 8th grade class in to school for Wednesdays starting Wednesday, October 28. Please note, 8th grade A students will attend Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays in person and Thursdays and Fridays will be distance days. 8th grade B students will attend in person on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and distance learn on Mondays and Tuesdays.

If you are a full time distance learner and would like to come back in the hybrid model, please contact your school before Monday, October 26. If you do not contact the school, we will assume you are continuing with full time distance learning.

HYBRID MODEL as of 10/28/2020:

PreK-6th grade: in person M, T, W, TH, F (no change - this is what you've been doing)

7th grade:in person M, T, TH, F; distance W (no change - this is what you've been doing)

8th grade: A pod: in person M, T, W; distance TH, F

B pod: in person W, H, F; distance M, T

These numbers are evaluated EVERY WEEK along with consulting local and state agencies. The JCC school district follows and implements all COVID guidelines as recommended from MDH and MSHSL. All protocols are processes are directly followed by the guidance we receive. JCC does not establish, or control their own contact tracing, quarantine decision and school and event restrictions.  The community’s actions and choices directly affect the impact of decisions schools make related to learning models and events. If we do have an increase in positive COVID cases, we will have to change our learning models and activities, per the guidance of MDH, CDC and MSHSL to keep the staff, students and community safe.

10/15/2020 update:

The Jackson County COVID numbers have DECREASED and we are at 24.88 cases (per 10,000 residents). We are in the correct learning model and no changes will be made at this time. Enjoy this MEA break, keep wearing your mask, continue to physical distance and make smart choices on gatherings.

https://www.health.state.mn.us/diseases/coronavirus/stats/wschool.pdf

10/09/2020 update:

The Jackson County COVID numbers have risen again and we are at 41.8.  Due to the low impact this currently has in our school district, we are able to remain where we are for our learning models. We will not be making a change in our learning model at this time. Keep wearing your mask, socially distancing and making smart choices on gatherings.

https://www.health.state.mn.us/diseases/coronavirus/stats/wschool.pdf

As of 10/01/2020 MDH released the Data for K-12 schools, 14 day COVID case rate; Jackson county is 39.81. This is the largest number we have seen in our county. Working with the regional support team, MDH, MDE, and local public health, we do not need to change our learning modules this week due to the low numbers of positive COVID cases in our school district. We are gradually switching to the hybrid model in all grades so we can prevent any further cases.

Please refer to the MDH situational website, for further information on Confirmed COVID cases related to the Minnesota schools. The school-related data will reflect confirmed COVID-19 cases in all Minnesota prekindergarten through grade 12 school buildings including public, nonpublic and tribal schools. School districts are required to adhere to the requirements of MDE and MDH, regardless of whether those requirements are worded as” guidance” or “recommended.”

As detailed on our reopening plan, the hybrid model requires six feet of distance between the students during the school day.  This is something the school is finalizing and will not be an adjustment to the current learning day for parents or students.

Transportation would change in the hybrid model.

When we officially change to hybrid, the bus company will adjust the number of students on the buses to and from school.  Shuttle buses to and from buildings will not be affected.  Rural routes will be adjusted.  Students who live within 1 mile of  their school will need to find their own transportation to and from school (aside from enrolled children in licensed daycares). An announcement will be made when we switch to this mode.

If our trend data increases to 40 or above, we will be looking at switching modules to distant learning for grades 7-12. PreK-6 will continue to be the hybrid module. We will take into consideration the current active numbers in each building.

If grades 7-12 go to distance learning, this will change our activities schedule.  Please click on this link to review: guidelines on our website from the Minnesota State High School League.

This past spring has brought unprecedented changes to our lives and our school system. As we plan for the 2020-21 school year, in compliance with the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) guidance, our focus is to create an educational delivery system to keep our students, families and staff healthy and safe.

JCC has formed a team to begin mapping out the needs for three scenarios, in –school, hybrid and distance learning, for the 2020 school year. The goal is to have our school ready for whatever the public health situation may require. It is the intent of the school district to be ready to switch between these scenarios if/when we are asked to do so by MDE/MDH.

As we formalize these plans one goal remains, to develop a system of instruction that meets the needs of every learner regardless of their situation. The district will continue to finalize the details and will share the reopening plans sometime during the first week of August. Additionally, thank you to our families and staff who offered input during the planning process by completing surveys.

The State plans to announce guidelines on Thursday, July 30th.  After review of those guidelines, we will publish our reopening plans below.

After hearing the press conference from the state, we will make some adjustments to our reopening plan.  Once we finalize our plan, we will send it out to parents, publish it on this site and share with the community on Wednesday, August 5th at 3pm.  Thank you for your patience.
